Roxy Young

Roxy never imagined she would have a life combining her two loves of helping hurting children and horses. When God called her to start RYR she had very little experience working with horses. So with utmost determination she has devoted the last few years studying under master horseman Buck Brannaman. Her studies have even taken her a couple times to Montana to work horses on a cattle ranch. At RYR Roxy is responsible for selecting and training all the horses that serve our youth. One of her greatest joys is bringing a frightened and anxiety ridden horse to a place of peace, rest and a good frame of mind. The only joy that trumps that is doing the same for children. Having come from a childhood of abuse and living in constant fear, Roxy empathizes with the brokeness, hurt and devastation in which many of our ranch youth and horses have endured. However, also having experienced the restoration of Jesus' saving grace and healing love, there is a hope of freedom and victory that she longs to share. When a child receives God's love there is a peace that settles in their soul. Roxy is so honored to have the privilege and purpose in life to provide a safe place where downcast eyes can light up, a little girl who doesn't talk can share her heart, and walls shatter like broken glass.

Shayla DeRenne
Shayla heard about Redemption Youth Ranch through Crossroads Church in the Summer of 2015. She had been praying for a ministry that she could be involved in that paired her love for youth aged girls as well as her love of horses. Shayla has suffered from Lyme Disease since age 12 and has a heart for youth who struggle with pain, depression, self harm, and self image. Shayla has been raised in a Christian home her entire life. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at five years old and then recommitted her life at the age of 18. Shayla has been a horse lover since she was five and got her first pony Snickers. She is excited to see what the Lord is going to do and to start the relationship building process with all who come to the ranch.

Chad Young
Chad while new to ranch life back in 2013, had been a mentor long before he ever knew he would be called to do this ministry. In his early college years he worked as a recreation leader at a Teen Center. While there he mentored the local teens, many of which came from group homes. After college he started a video and photography business called Cinematic Edge. His business model was to train up high school students to learn the trade of photography and video and then become the crew that would film their community events. This gave much opportunity to mentor and lead young people.

Jadyn Hull
I came to RYR at 13 years old as a mentee. I am the oldest of eight kids now and have always felt this extreme pressure of being responsible and having to lead by example. This pressure weighed on me for most of my life until I came to the ranch where I learned how to balance out being a kid and being responsible at the same time. As the years went by I grew in my relationship with the Lord and He taught me (and is still teaching me) on what it means to be a valued daughter of Christ. Right now I am currently 19 and a mentor at RYR and am so grateful to help young girls learn what it means to have God as their loving father.

Elena Lee
Elena has multiple roles at the ranch: volunteer, greeter, & mentor. She has been dedicated to serving this ministry for last 5 years in any capacity that has been needed. She has also raised five children and has experience with horses, art, and gardening. She has a heart for the broken-hearted kids that God sends us for healing and love. There are many ways to give, but God only asks us to show up and be available.

Taylor Young
Taylor is nearly 13 going on 16 and has been serving at RYR from the very beginning. She was born in Southern California, but when she moved up with the family to Grass Valley, it didn't take long for her love for horses and kids to come alive. She also loves to do archery, fishing, games, art and piano. Taylor is a fun loving girl who is bound to make you laugh.

Abby Hidalgo
Abigail was born into a loving Christian home in Roseville California but when she was 3 months old moved to Selmer Tennessee. The neighbors beautiful black horse immediately grabbed her attention. As Abby learned to walk, her mom would take Abby out to the pasture to pet the horse. Soon, she was pointing to the top of the horse and asking in her baby babble to get on it. With the horse being lead by a lead rope, little 2 year old Abby would sit on its back holding tight to its mane and walk all around the property. Since then she has had a strong connection with horses and dreams of owning a horse ranch. She is always looking for ways to serve the Lord and spend as much of her day with horses as possible. Last year Abby met Shayla, a mentor at Redemption Youth Ranch, and they had an instant connection! What a perfect blend of Abby’s love for horses and her heart to serve. She is now a freshmen in high school and is so grateful to be a part of Redemption Youth Ranch.

Jeremiah Young
Jeremiah is a fun and caring kid with a whole lot of energy to share. At the ranch he plays an integral role especially when it comes to playing with the many siblings that come with the youth attending. Session after session he is there to keep them entertained and having fun taking every opportunity to show them the love of Christ. He is also a great help to Chad as they work to maintain the beauty of the ranch.
